Established in 1984, Vellore Institute of Technology (Also known as VIT Vellore or VIT University) is a private research university located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The institute is recognised as an Institution of Eminence and the No. 1 private university for Innovation as recognised by the Government of India.

It is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited with an A++ Grade by the NAAC. The institute has been ranked by renowned international ranking bodies, including QS World Ranking. 

VIT Vellore is ranked 22 in the 'Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia' and 173 in the 'Asian University Rankings' of the QS World Rankings 2024. Nationally, VIT Vellore is ranked eight in the University category and 11 in the Research category by the NIRF 2023 Rankings.
